So you wanted to invite family and friends over for a evening of fun and laughter. You want to entertain in your basement but it's not suitable for entertaining because you have to run upstairs for cold beverages and other things that are in the kitchen. I know how it feels to have a space that's not fully functional and what makes it worse is that it eventually become unused space. You forget about it because you have no good used for it and it no longer serves a purpose. It's time to refinish that basement but first lets start with the adding a basement kitchenette.
Before you take on a huge project like remodeling, you what to be very clear what that space is going to be used for and what functions you want it to have. It's like drawing your thoughts before they become a reality. You must first figure out what type of activities you'll be needing in the space . You also want to think about future expansion especially if you have kids upstairs sharing a room. You also have the opportunity to add spaces you though you would never have in your home like a game room or media room. Once you do that then you break it down into how you want that space to function and who would be using the space on a daily basis. But first we are going to start with getting your thoughts, ideas, and dreams together for your new basement kitchenette. Before we get into all of this lets try to get a complete understanding of what the difference is between a kitchen and a kitchenette. It all comes down to size. The kitchenette is a compact kitchen usually found in studio apartments (especially if your living in New York), and extended stay hotels. These type of kitchen are used to save on space when dealing with tight quarters. There are different version of a kitchenette design because so many are being placed in basement for additional entertainment space or when basements are converted into studio rental apartments. I know that you’ve seen the popular show on HGTV Income Property and if you did you will see that the majority of his renovations are kitchenettes. I guess your wondering exactly what makes a functional kitchen for entertaining. I'm glad you ask let's break it down. They say that a kitchenette comes with a microwave, small dorm size fridge, freezer and hot plate. That's not a kitchenette that's camping in your home. Come on that's like living in a dorm and you know how little you were able to fit into those witty-bitty fridge and all you can fit in the freezer is a Popsicle. Let's be realistic here. The only person you can entertain with this type of setup is your self and only for about an hour before you have to run back upstairs to find food to eat in your fridge. Let's start with whats needed then add the dream piece later that why when it comes to crunching the budget you know what can be eliminated without sacrificing the function of the kitchen. I know that you might say that some of the dreams is the function but in reality it really isn't. Lets say that you wanted a warming draw and your $300 over budget not having that warming draw wouldn't totally ruin the function of the kitchenette. I do believe that somethings that go into a kitchenette should be left to the upstairs kitchen especially a warming draw. But you might want to add thinks like an ice maker if your plan on doing a lot of entertaining. A small sink is also needed and a fridge. I do see a lot of basement kitchenette with a small dorm fridge and that's find if it suits your needs. But, if you are going to do a lot of entertaining in your basement adding a small fridge is a waste of money and really defeats the purpose of having a fridge in the basement at all. When you begin you won't be looking for standard kitchen appliances you want to get appliances that will fit well into the space you have available. There are different prefab kitchens available for a kitchenette. One option is to buy a compact kitchen per-fabricated which is about 60” in size with 5.1 cu. ft. CT67 Refrigerator-Freezer, 2 Electric Burners, Stainless Steel Counter top, Sink and Faucet and Storage Compartments. I find this type of setup ideal when you have an office in your basement and if it's a place where you kids play and entertain their friends this might work. This compact kitchen runs a little under $1300. If this is still too small and your looking for a bigger fridge or an ice maker I would advise you have it built out professionally so that you are able to add the necessary components to suit your everyday needs. You can do so many things with an unfinished basement and with a little planning and thought the possibilities are endless. Please follow us on Facebook and like and share. Disclaimer:I used affiliate links on this post and may receive a commission if you purchase a product As you know, football season is right around the corner. I know the men are excited and a few women. Yes that's right some women are just as excited for the season to start! But what could really be exciting is the opportunity to have your very over media room in your home where you have enough room to invite friends and family over. N ow for those of you who have a basement that isn't finish (and we have a lot of unfinished basements here in Georgia) . So I put together a few option for you to create basement media rooms. Basement media rooms are become very common in homes today especially with all the shows on HGTV and D.I.Y. about man Caves. And you don't have to be a sports fan to have a fabulous place to watch TV. Here are a few ideas I came up with. The Sports Theme
The Dated Basement!
Odd Shape Rooms
For the Women Who Sports Loves!
If you have that extra room, unfinished, dated or finish basement and wasn't sure what to do with it, try making it into a media room. Although I talk about having it to watch football and invite friends over, this is also a great option for the entire family to enjoy. If you have the space to add game pieces and game system this can also be a great hangout for the kids and their friends. Not only will you have a cleaner house you will have a quieter house.
I would love for you to comment or ask me a few question if you have any. I also have a news letter that I am started I would love for you to get on the list receive this weekly publication. I see a lot of videos and when I sometimes look at what's in the background I get distracted! This is why I decided to talk about interior design for YouTube. When deciding on what it is that you would like to do with your channel I would recommend that you take into consideration what type of message that you want to bring across. These simple backgrounds are very inexpensive and basically you can use what is laying around your house to make your videos look more professional. For the gossip channels I thank about talk show themes where you interview other people or if you are the only one just use one bar stool and add a bistro table to place your coffee on to complete the look. If you already have bar stools this would be a perfect options but if you don't, don't worry you can always use your club chairs or dinning room chairs to get this affect. As far as the background scene, you can get wallpaper scenes for about $100 or you can take a picture yourself and have it turned into wall paper. Check out this site for more informationhttp://www.designyourwall.com/store/favoritedrawing.php . I would suggest using a city scene (day or night) so it really looks authentic. If you don't want it on your wall just get a piece of quarter inch MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and attached the background. That way it's doesn't become permanent and you can also put it away when your not using it. Don't forget your faux plants to give life to the area. Now you have the option to transform any room in your house with out totally disrupting you current interiors. You can also use your garage or basement even if your basement is unfinished to pull off this look. For the Sports reporter this idea is so simple! I know what your thinking that the TV's in the background or going to break the bank! Well you have an option, you can buy the TV's if your budget allows it. But if you are on a tight budget then you can get the same props that designers use when staging homes. You can get these TV's starting at $21.50 at http://www.propsamerica.com/. At this website you can also get laptops, TV images and fake food. Now as for the bar stools and table, if you have stools great, if not, again just use two dinning room chairs or living room chairs. If you don't have a bar use a rectangle kitchen table or folding table. To give the image of the wood, go to your local home improvement store and get bead board and stain it or paint it what ever color you like or your theme and attach it to the front of the table or you can even lay it against the table if you don't want to attach it. The curtains give it the media room touch and if you decided to set up a media room use this idea and now you have taken one room that have multiple uses. You can easily set up this idea in a basement or a garage or anywhere you have a blank wall. It's simple to do. For the educator or for those who are fortunate enough to have a space for a home office. I would suggest that you use it! It already there and if you have it set up it won't cost you a thing. This option can be used for a variety of you-tubers and it's especially ideal for those that are in the Forex trading business. As you can see on the wall I have clocks and you will see a lot of people that do business overseas have multiple clock on their wall to see the time in the locations where they do business with. So if you want to fake it before you make it here is what you can do. To get the clocks, buy one clock that you really like. Bring it home and take pictures of that clock at different times. Print out the copies in the size of your choice and then get a piece of foam cord and decoupage it to the foam. Now you have achieved the same look without having to purchase additional clocks. And of course don't forget to get yourself two faux plants to put in your background to liven things up! For the free spirited entrepreneur it can't get any easier then this. If you have a beautiful backyard, leave close to a park or a beautiful beach then this is definitely the way to go. If you have patio furniture in your back yard you are halfway there and if you don't go to Craigslist and I',m sure you will find something there that's in your budget. The best thing about recording outside is that you have all the natural light that you can get. You don't need all the additional equipment that is needed for lighting indoors. But I will tell you that if you do choice to record your videos outside do it in the morning or in the evening to avoid the harsh shadows that come with recording during the day. This is because the sun is on top of you, therefor shadows will be there and there's no way to avoid them unless you do it at the particular times mention. This option can be used by anyone if you don't have a beautiful backyard or you don't live close to a beach or park. Just go outside and make your video using just a head shot! This is the cheapest alternative yet. It's great how things have changed in life. Now you can choose a job that would otherwise be impossible to break into without the right credentials. So before you began your video take inventor of what you already have around your house. And if you have a small budget use it to purchase tools and equipment that will help further your business. These designs for YouTube videos proves you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a professional background. Start your business right from the beginning so others will taking your serious. Using these ideas will eliminate the clutter in the background. To see more of my designs please go to my gallery. If you have any question please leave a comment below and follow me on Facebook. Until Next time happy decorating! I am so very excited to announce that I won 1st place in the Olioboards contest. This is my first win and I am beyond grateful! I never imaged that I would win a contest on a website that have 103,000 members! Now don't get me wrong not all designers participate in the design challenge only a selected few choose to participate. But regardless it's an honor to have the opportunity to compete with some really awesome designers! I wanted to show you the design that I created that won 1st place. It's a perfect combination of different shades of grey. What I liked about this room was the concept that sometime we fell like everything has to match including the light fixtures. I want to show that although the pendent lighting wasn't the same it still balance the room because of it's common color of black. Thanks and happy decorating! O.K. So I know that I haven't posted since May but it's not because I stop working on my business. The real reason was because I needed to implement a system in order to create a real business. So all this time I have been studying and focusing on exactly how I need to do this. And this is the reason why I need a Facebook fan page. This fan page will help me to connect and interact with people who have the same interest. So today was the day of the launch of my Facebook fan page, you can visit me at https://www.facebook.com/Ladiposhtotalhome.
I realized that I was handling my business incorrectly. So I had to do research and figure out what was really working out there. Because of the type of personality I have, I have to focus on one thing at a time trying to do to much gets overwhelming. And what I did find out is that there is not a lot of information for designer or creative people who want to build a massive business. I see the same thing that related to creative people make something and then sell it. That's not the business model that I am looking for. That's a job model. I worked like that for years doing design work creating pieces and over the years I felt fatigue in my hands and eyes. You see I don't want to do what everybody else is doing. I need a business model that will work for me even if I can't use my hands that day. I want something new and fresh that's going to create value to my reader when they come to my blog and my fan page. I don't just want to sell them a product that I created and that's the end of that. Don't get me wrong I do want to make money I just feel that you should have a bigger business model and the stuff you create and sale is just...........extra. What this fan page will do for me is help others who have question about everyday decorating and entertainment dilemma. I've always had family and friends asking for advice on so many different things from decorating interiors, recovering furniture or putting on an event for a special occasion (and throughout the years I have put on many special occasions). You ask about it, I probably have a good idea of how to do it. I notice that when the economy took a dive people have turn to D.I.Y. projects to help improve and make simple repairs to their homes. I just hope I can make the transition as easy as possible. I learned a lot of my do-it-yourself projects due to the many floods my family had to encounter living in New Orleans where I was born and raised and when I became a single parent decorating a home was not an easy task. But through it all I refuse to not have what I wanted just because I couldn't afford it. I always loved beautiful furniture and interiors and have found unique ways throughout the last 15 years to create exactly what I want at a fraction of the price. Now I plan to help others do the same. I could create designs all day everyday without a second thought. You know what they say, " find something you love to do and you'll never work a day in your life". So regardless of what business you have you need a way to engage with people that are like minded and who are interested in you. That's why a needed a Facebook fan page. Follow me on Facebook! To view some of my designs head on over to my interior gallery page! Please comment below..... and until then talk to you later If your thinking of starting a business in the creative industry or if your already have a business I want you to know that automating your design business can be the best thing that you will ever do to grow your company.
Can you imagine making your creations once and having them sell over and over again with having to produce it ever again. This is called automation! There are so many creative people in this internet world who are successful in their own right. They have a routine in place and they follow it daily in order to produce beautiful products for their customers. These creative people are designers, graphics artist, crafters, painters, sculptors, and so many more that I can't think of them all. The thing about creators is that when you search the internet there in to much information about automating your business. Most everything that you come across is about making money online, MLM business, let's just say everything besides design marketing. As creative people we have to be smart and we have to think of our health especially if you are an artist like a glass blower dealing with fire, or a iron sculptor who forges iron in to beautiful creations. These and other types of artist work can be hard on the body and that's why it critical of all of use to think of more ways to produce income. What ever your talents are always think in the mind of automation. This will help you start a profitable business instead of turning your passion into a chore. Making any hand creation day in and day out can cause your quality of work to suffer. You must for the sake of your business think of more creative ways to bring in more money. One of the main advantages of thinking in the form of automating your business is that you make or produce something once and you can sell it over and over again. This will help your business grow even when your not making products. How is that? Easy! Let's say you have figured out how to improve upon something that's already in the market and now you have a better product for it. The best thing to do is write an eBook or make a video about the techniques used to make this product better. And presto you have a part of your business that is automated. Now when you decided to go on vacation, or if having a sick day, you don't have to shut down your business completely and the money will continue to roll in. I Know what your saying, I really love what I do. I understand that, my point is you never want to make your passion feel like it's a chore by always having to produce to see income. By figuring out different ways to automate part of your business you can see a vast improvement in your companies growth as well as an improvement in your creativity. Not automating your design business can put a limit on your earnings. You are human and you can only work so many hours in a day and produce so much in a particular time frame. It is critical that you brain storm ways where at least 30% of your business can be automated. It's not all about the money! When you start adding things like eBooks and tutorials, you are helping someone better them selves and maybe even their business. Again automation is not only about money, it's smart business and your adding value to your business which can also increase sales. I guarantee once you start helping others in your business you will see a continue grown in your company. Remember in order to get what you want you have to help someone else get what they want. To see more of my designs visit my gallery! Do forget to follow me on Facebook! Please leave a comment below.......see you next time. As you might have read in the previous post "Missing In Action". I told you how I spent the last 2 years chasing a shinny apple. As you see from my gallery pictures that I love creating beautiful accessory pieces but that's not the only part of my creativity. I have a love for interior decorating and I'm not to bad at it either (not barging or anything). So I have decided to start sharing some of my creations to let others see what I can do. Now every morning I am waking up to my passion and I'm loving it.
The secret to finding your passion is this. Let's say you won the lottery and you never had to work again. What is it that you would still do and didn't have to worry about making money. If you know the answer then you have found your passion. I love decorating! I would create rooms all day if I could but I have to work on the business side of things like writing this blog. I have been designing, creating, and decorating for over 20 years. I learn though reading a lot of books and magazines. Then a wonderful network was created called HGTV. I watch just about every program. And if you haven't notice on HGTV Design Star, the majority of the winners are self taught designers. Creativity can't be taught it's something that you already have and you must create more and more everyday to enhance that creativity. I realized this after taking classes from the Art Institute. I learn how to recreate looks of expensive pieces that I couldn't afford otherwise out of hand-me-downs, second had stores and of course Craigslist the mecca of cheap furniture finds. I have studied home staging and understand what a home should look like in order for it to sale. I have redesigned rooms using clients current furnishing to create a new look. I'm am building a portfolio of my work through mood boards. I had pictures of previous work that I had done but they all got destroyed. So I have found the next best thing and now I am able to help others create beautiful rooms without the expenses of hiring a designer. I am not only doing something that I love I am helping others as well, and to me that makes all the difference. It's a blessing to waking up to my passion knowing I have the opportunity to create beautiful spaces and share it with others. Go here if you would like to see my gallery of interiors! Remember you will never become wealthy in life unless you help someone else. I have been away from this site for such a long time. Yes I have been missing in action and I'll tell you why!
The past two years of my life has been up and down. I have been trying to make this internet marketing thing work by trying everything in sight and then I realize it was time to stop chasing the shinny apple. There is so much information out there that you become so over whelemed and not sure of what to do. I came to the realization that I was not happy trying to do a business for money when I had no interest in the system. So I have decided that I no longer wanted to get involved in any programs that required me to make monthly payment in order to stay a member. Now don't get me wrong some of the programs really do work and no they are not schemes but it just wasn't for me. I've been in MLM programs and started out doing very well until my entire team that recruited me decided to quit. I know I could have kept going but it actually meant having to drive even further to team meetings. I live in Atlanta and when I say further I mean like 2 hours out of my way. So it was best to let it go. Then I tried Motor Club of America thought the product was great but I joined under a knuckle head who said that you can call or email him any time. I called and emailed him several times to ask a few question. That was back in February 2013 I still haven't received that call or email. Now when I join him there ever several other programs that you needed to join in order to make the maximum profit. And one of the programs that was included in this the blogging platform was Empower Network! The concept of Empower Network is brilliant but in order to get ahead in this type of business you needed to fork out $2000..........monthly. That just wasn't for me I spent so much money doing these business and I never made any real money! No it's not because the business doesn't. For me is was just too much. Too much to pay monthly, too much to do with all the businesses that I had jointed, way too much information, and not sure where or how to apply it. Since then I tried another business and of course it was set up like Empower Network in the form the monthly payment but not as much. This one had to do with Amazon Dropshipping program on Ebay. My problem with this for me was that every time someone inquired about a product I had listed, I would go back to Amazon to get the information and they were either out of stock or no longer carried that particular product. This happen to me 6 times and that was it for me I was finished. It wasn't worth the headache. I felt like I was listing bogus products for others to buy and I did not want to take anyone's money for a product that was no longer available. Do then I started analyzing everything. Some things I can have stick with and some of them were just entirely too expensive for my blood. So why wasn't I sticking with the products? Because I wasn't passionate about any of it and I was doing it all for the wrong reason. I have stop chasing all the programs and systems. I am no longer missing in action!. I have decided to do what I am passionate about and rededicate myself to this site but with more of my true passions. Check out my next blog post to see how I decided to change my life.
